イラク戦争

イラク戦争（Iraq war）は、2003年3月20日にアメリカ、イギリスがイラクに対して加えた武力行使によって始まった戦争であり、4月9日にバグダッドは陥落した。サッダーム・フセインの政権は崩壊し、5月1日にアメリカは戦闘の終結を宣言し、連合国暫定占領当局の統治が開始されたが、党派間の武装闘争によって治安悪化が深刻な問題となった。この間にイラクではサッダーム政権で抑圧されてきたシーア派の勢力が台頭し、2004年3月にイラクの統治評議会がイラク基本法を制定し、6月に主権を移譲されたが、その後も治安の問題は容易に解決することができなかった。2005年1月の移行国民議会選挙でシーア派を基盤とする統一イラク連合が勝利を収め、4月にはクルド愛国同盟の議長を大統領に選出し、シーア派の指導者を首相とする政権が発足した。同年12月に新憲法が国民投票で承認され、2006年には新体制の下でヌーリー・マーリキー政権が発足したが、宗派間の対立から国内で再び治安問題が再発し、アメリカ軍はこれに対処するために部隊を増派した。2008年に治安回復の見通しが立ったことから各国の部隊は撤退を開始し、アメリカも2011年までに主要な部隊を撤退させた。その後もイラクの北部ではマーリキー政権はイラク国内で国際テロリスト集団の勢力拡大を防ぐことができなかった。
