兵站
兵站(logistics)とは、任務を達成する上で物的戦闘力を維持増進する活動であり、補給、交通、衛生などの機能を含んでいる。兵站の問題は、戦闘力を維持、増進することによって、作戦を支援することだが、兵站支援を行うためには、糧食、弾薬、燃料、部品など、多岐にわたる補給品を切れ目なく被支援部隊に提供し続ける必要がある。作戦に参加する部隊の規模が拡大し、部隊が展開する地域が広がり、また作戦が長期化するほど、兵站の課題は複雑化する。兵站の研究では、補給品の供給と需要をサプライチェーン管理の考え方で均衡させるが、兵站支援の態勢を構築する上で、費用を最小に抑制する効率性と、不確実な状況でも強靭に支援を続ける有効性のどちらを優先すべきか、どれほど優先すべきかは状況によって異なっている。
